What is A283 steel?
Low to intermediate strength carbon steel plate (ASTM A283 / A283M), for general structural applications. Offers good ductility, weldability, and ease of fabrication, with properties that vary by grade. Supplied hot rolled; for bases, supports, frames, non-pressurized tanks, and moderately demanding structural components.

This is the typical composition of A283 steel (ASTM A283 Gr. C standard):

A283 grades and properties
A283 is a low- to intermediate-strength plate that comes in four grades (A, B, C and D) with different strength levels; the most common is grade C. It offers good ductility, weldability and ease of fabrication. It is used when the strength of steels such as A572 is not required, in moderately demanding structural applications.
