MetalsWhat is C11000 electrolytic copper and what is it used for? High conductivity
C11000 copper is high-conductivity electrolytic copper. In this guide we explain what C11000 electrolytic copper is, its composition, its properties, what it is used for and the sizes we stock.
What is electrolytic copper C11000?
C11000 (ETP) copper, a high-grade electrolytic copper, is a high-purity copper (99.90 % min) known for its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. In H02 and H04 tempers it offers higher mechanical strength while retaining very high conductivity, making it ideal for bus bars, conductors, connections and electrical components.
Chemical composition of C11000 electrolytic copper
This is the typical composition of C11000 copper (UNS C11000 / ASTM/ASME B152 / B187 / EN CW004A / DIN 2.0060 / JIS C1100 standard):
| Element | Contents | What for? |
|---|---|---|
| Copper (Cu) | 99.90 % min. | Base metal |
| Oxygen (O) | 0.02 – 0.04 % | Refining oxygen (tough pitch copper) |
| Others | 0.06 % max. | Other elements, kept limited |
C11000 properties and temper
C11000 is nearly pure copper (99.90 % minimum), so its key strength is electrical and thermal conductivity, among the highest of all metals. Being pure copper, it does not harden by heat treatment: it gains strength through cold working. In the H02 and H04 tempers (half-hard and hard) its mechanical strength rises while retaining very high conductivity, ideal for busbars and conductors.
What is it for? Applications of C11000
C11000 copper is mainly used in:
- Busbars
- Electrical conductors and cables
- Connectors and terminals
- Conductive welding components
- Contacts and switching
- Heat exchangers
- Heat sinks
- Electrical hardware and accessories
- Electronic components
